Ants: Heavy Rain in the U.P. today?

aimeecreedunn

Although it's controversial, there are many who claim ants can predict heavy rainfall. Ever since hearing of this, I've tried to keep a vigilant eye on the ant hills around my home and the weather as it unfolds.

From my observations over the last couple of years, it seems ants are about as good a weather forecasters as our own human ones. Often they build high and heavy rainfall comes. At times, they don't build high but heavy rainfall comes -- this appears to happen less frequently than the first. I'm working on observing how often they build high but no rainfall comes.

Whatever the end result of my observations will be, it may be of interest to note that despite sunny skies ever since yesterday evening, the local ants here have been predicting heavy rain for my area of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Our human weather forecasters are also predicting heavy rain (between a tenth and quarter of an inch).

I don't know about you, but when I go outside today, I think I'll bring my umbrella.
